is hippie the new wholesome?
a couple of weeks ago, I was invited to a (late) equinox celebration at a campsite. my husband and I were invited by some friends, and the afternoon went like this: everybody brought a bit of food to share, plus an ingredient for a communal soup. we had a fire where we made the soup, cooked sausages, baked some bread and toasted marshmallows. it was also the perfect cosy spot to sit around, talk and snack.
and, in a typical office manner, the next workday I told my co-workers about my weekend. both of them gen z, not sure if that's important, but they both defined the whole affair as 'wholesome'. which, I can't lie, was very wholesome. but older people in my life defined it as 'hippie', or 'interesting', or even 'why?'.
so, with the risk of being judgemental, I got thinking that maybe younger people see the beauty in this communal gathering because that's something they're rediscovering - through trends, but alas. at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter why or how the importance of offline life and human connection resurfaces. it's a good thing that we're understanding the value of it - me included - and I'm just grateful that that's the case.
so yeah, it's freaking wholesome!
